Welcome to Drumlin, Ontario. Situated somewhere south-east of Stirkland, in those backwoods locally known as Gawetagem District, Drumlin is a secluded community, populated predominantly by fishers and farmers who feel indebted to the deep lake and acres of shallow, Shield soil which feed them.

The Canadian town of Drumlin is the setting for Alixandra Bamford’s full colour graphic novel, Nearest the Mouth.

Our narrator is young Amber Donaghue, the doctor’s daughter: muddled, but earnest; illiterate, yet retentive. Through Nearest the Mouth she attempts to elucidate the events surrounding her grandmother’s funeral.

A story of unformulated questions, worn revelations, and raw vegetables, unintelligible accords, dissonances, and heartbeats.
